Kathryn’s fine art giclées
Many of Kathryn's paintings are available as fine art giclées. To produce a giclée, a digital image of the original painting is made and mechanically transferred to canvas in limited editions. Each canvas is signed and numbered by the artist, and shipped with a Certificate of Authenticity.

limited edition of 130
$300
"The first week the leaves started to fall from the trembling aspen trees at our log cabin north of Water Valley, Alberta, they lay like brilliant jewels on the forest floor: an unbelievable rich yellow colour. The lighted path of the sun elicits a spiritual feeling from the viewer."
Ponoka Winter Sky
30 x 48 inches / 76 x 122 cm
limited edition of 130

"Driving back from Edmonton to Calgary, Alberta on a Winter Day, the starkness and similar colours of the sky and fields made almost an unbelievable view; one that is common to Canadians and with a sundog warning of colder temperatures to come."

36 x 36 inches / 91.5 x 91.5 cm

$350
36 x 36 inches / 91.5 x 91.5 cm
limited edition of 90
$500
"Our first summer living in our log cabin north of Water Valley, Alberta was atypically hot. The nearby Fallen Timber Creek provided a welcome relief after work. Being only knee to thigh deep, it would gurgle by when we sat in it a giving us a massage and allowing us to admire the range of colours and textures of the creek rocks."
Boulders
30 x 40 inches / 76 x 101.5 cm
limited edition of 130
$450
“The size of the intractable, eroded giant granite boulders sitting on top of the second largest monolith in Australia, Bald Rock National Park southwest of Brisbane, makes me feel very small. Traveling helps me keep things in perspective. Some trips are focused on culture or archeology but some of my favorite trips were ones where I drew a line on a map between all of the National Parks of geological or ecological interest and then, found some way to get to them.”
Bateman Ranch

limited edition of 90
$300
20 x 60 inches / 51 x 152 cm

"When getting close to the Rocky Mountain Foothills in southern Alberta, one encounters ridges aligned more or less north-south running parallel to the mountains. These upthrusted ridges were glaciated and support thick fescue grass and willows on the bottoms and side slopes, with angled shale and sandstone bedrock outcrops along the tops of the ridge. These are sometimes referred to as “hogbacks” because of their visual similarity to the ridge on a wild pig back. This is one of my favorite ecosystems where one can sit on the top of the ridge and see forever, unfortunately usually the wind is howling around one. This view is located west of Cochrane Alberta on the historic Bateman Ranch, one of the 100 year plus ranches in southern Alberta."
Bison Skull

28 x 22 inches / 71 x 53 cm

"The Rolling Sand Hills is an internationally (UNESCO) recognized unique ecosystem in southeastern Saskatchewan with shifting dunes with some sparse silver sage. There are numerous genus of sage in the prairies but the sliver sage is one of the larger ones and is important food source for some of the animals. The sage’s distinct smell reminds one of the prairies, but also means a dry country, that is harsh on its inhabitants and former inhabitants, including the bison that use to roam these parts."
Moab Climbing
34 x 18 inches / 86 x 45.5 cm
limited edition of 130
$350
"The eroded red sandstone in Southern Utah makes a playground irresistible to people who love the outdoors. Climbing, scrambling, biking, rafting, mining are all activities that are engaged in. One just wants to climb to the top of some of the monoliths, just to see the view. The smoothness, yet hardness of the sandstone make it pleasure to touch and it is almost hypnotic."
Yellow Clouds Over Trees

limited edition of 130
$350
36 x 48 inches / 91.5 x 122 cm

"Having been born and partially raised in Saskatchewan, a land of prairie and big open skies, the sky provides endless variety and inspiration for me. This sunset was so spectacular that I climbed on top of the garage for the best view, leading to such an intense curiosity from my neighbours that they came over later to ask what I was doing, and that ended up being our introduction when I lived in the Mount Pleasant community of Calgary, Alberta."
Birch Tree

"Birch trees in the mixedwood boreal forest are relatively rare, but are valuable for a hot and clean burning fire. They are also valued for their bark, which was used for making canoes and baskets. This tree is in an overly mature forest near Emma Lake, Saskatchewan and was lit up vividly by the sun shining in the leaves. To capture that paper appearance of the bark a volunteer branch, collected near Rocky Mountain House Alberta, was captured and peeled or inspected during those high contemplation times that occur fairly often during painting."
Little Red Deer River
24 x 24 inches / 61 x 61 cm
limited edition of 130
$350
"The peacefulness of this little river as it meanders just makes one stop and take a deep breath, just the way the shadows play on the river and the rich scent of white spruce. This scene is looking north from the bridge off of the Burnt Timber Road, west of Cremona. Alberta. I often stop to just sit and look when I am going by this spot. Others seem to also appreciate this spot. The odd fisherman comes in the summer, walking along the meanders looking for pools with brown trout. And on the hottest days in the summer, the south side of the bridge has a deeper pool that is a local summer hang-out for the teenagers for their swimming parties."
Ayers Rock
30 x 24 inches / 76 x 61 cm
limited edition of 130
$350
"This is one of two permanent springs at Ayers Rock, the largest monolith in the world, in Australia. Ayers Rock outshines any attempt to capture it image as it continually changes when one approaches it. Once there, it inspires awe, a feeling of spirituality, and a desire to touch the rock to make sure it is not a mirage."
Blue Rain Cloud
10 x 40 inches / 25 x 102 cm
limited edition of 130
$300
12 x 48 inches / 30 x 122 cm
limited edition of 30
$400
"There is something about low sloping sun making canola fields shine so brightly that catches the eye. And those round hay bales…I don’t know if it is because they are cute when sitting in a field or the eye appreciates the repetitive pattern they make while waiting to be collected. The dark blue rain cloud just topped everything else off, with the fresh scent of rain permeating the atmosphere. This cloud formation was just west of Cremona off the Burnt Timber Road, in southwestern Alberta, close to where I live."
Reflections

limited edition of 90
$350
36 x 24 inches / 91.5 cm x 61 cm
limited edition of 30
$400
“Walking in the forest behind our log cabin, the sun glittered in the snow, causing the sparkles in the snow to glitter with rainbow colours. What can one say to that beauty? And what medium, if any, can capture it?”
Moss and Trees
30 x 10 inches / 76 x 25 cm
limited edition of 130
$300
"Trees baffle me. How can they grow on straight rock? This north facing slope is located off of the forestry truck road in central Alberta, east of Mountain Aire Lodge in the Rocky Mountain Foothills. The moss forms a thick blanket that covers the bedrock, with the exception of a few outcrops. So neither the moss nor the struggling white spruce and lodgepole pine have much to support them, structurally or for nutrient supply."
Sundre Poppies
24 x 12 inches / 61 x 20 cm
limited edition of 130
$250
“The memorial in Sundre Alberta with vivid red poppies sharply contrasting with the wild white spruce trees and blue sky that goes on forever is one of my favorite places for remembrance of those, like my father, who fought in world war II.”
Poppies
12 x 12 inches / 30.5 x 30.5 cm
limited edition of 130

"My father is a World War II veteran. As such, remembrance day and red poppies have a special meaning to me, as well as many other people. In addition, a friend requested this painting as a tribute to remember her mom by, whose favorite flower was red poppies."
Hunter Valley

limited edition of 90
$400
24 x 48 inches / 61 x 122 cm
limited edition of 30
$500
"The fall colours in Hunter Valley shimmer in the light, willows contrasting with white spruce. This valley, located northwest of Water Valley, Alberta, is a haven for elk, deer and a sow grizzly with her two cubs. Wild (feral) horses also roam here. The North Burnt Timber Creek meanders through the peat-filled valleys."
Haida Gwaii Fishing
24 x 30 inches / 61 x 76 cm
limited edition of 130
$350
"This painting is a tribute to Dave Richardson who took his sister-in-law and myself fishing for coho salmon just offshore from the heritage Richardson ranch, reknown for its Hereford cattle. The little boat rocked, salmon bit and ran, water splashed, eliciting screams of terror and joy from Gladys Stephenson and myself. Thank-you Dave."
Pesuta Beach, Haida Gwaii
24 x 30 inches / 61 x 76 cm
limited edition of 130
$350
"On Pesuta Beach, one appreciates the sunny, beaten gravel coast that separates the green jewels of the rain forest from the sea. Thanks to Gladys for not making me carry the Japanese float (many of which litter the beach) all the way back to the art studio and for the great adventure crossing the Tlell River at low tide and for sharing the first fish we got, the one that the eagle sent me."
Tlell River, Haida Gwaii
18 x 24 inches / 46 x 61 cm
limited edition of 90
$300
24 x 32 inches / 61 cm x 81.5 cm
limited edition of 30
$350
"Haida Gwaii, off the west coast of Canada, is a magical place and a unique ecosystem. The salmon-laidened Tlell River glitters through the dark, moss-covered ground and trees. Thanks so much to Doug and Penny Richardson, the latter also an artist, who shared her wonderful studio and home with me, and to Gladys Stephenson, Penny’s sister, another environmental scientist and fellow ecosystem appreciator, who made it possible. The generosity of artists to each other is a great inspiration to me."

Work Boots
15 x 19 inches / 38 x 48 cm
small-run offset printing on acid-free paper
numbered and signed
$50
"Yes, these are my real work boots. After only one season when working as a young soil scientist doing ecological surveys in the boreal forest, I was surprised to see fiberglass, not steel toes, poking through the toes. In disgust, I threw them onto our hardwood floor in Edmonton, Alberta, making me see them in a gentler light."
